The 'Diamond Professional Program' is designed for students wishing to pursue a career in the diamond industry and consists of an eight lesson theory course and an eight day (48 hour) practical workshop.
The theoretical component of this program covers the physical properties, geology, localities, principle mines, crystal system, chemical composition and classification, fancy colours, causes of colour, absorption spectra, inclusions, fluorescence, mining, cutting, gem identification, methods of synthesis, common treatments and enhancements and grading of diamonds.
The eight day practical workshop covers colour and clarity grading, how to estimate the table %, crown angle, pavilion depth %, girdle thickness, polish and symmetry and how to identify lab-created diamonds.
This program includes one online test, a practical examination (requiring the preparation of complete lab reports for four diamonds), a 100 question theoretical multiple-choice examination and a theoretical five essay question examination.
Upon the successful completion of this program, graduates will receive the Diamond Professional Diploma.
The theoretical components of this program are available for long distance learning. You can register at any time and study at your own pace. There are no time restrictions.
This program includes two (2) hours of online tutoring from our Gem Academy of Canada instructors. Once you have registered, you will receive an email detailing how you can choose your tutoring hours. You can also request additional tutoring hours through the l’École de Gemmologie de Montréal (EGM) website.
For students choosing this option, the practical class is offered at the l’École de Gemmologie de Montréal (EGM) and requires forty-eight (48) contact hours to complete. The costs for the 'Digital' and 'Printed' course options include the cost of this practical class.

Students may choose our accelerated 'Diamond Professional Diploma' residency program and complete the theoretical and practical requirements in eighty-eight (88) contact hours studying full-time at EGM.
